Schaumburg Youth Concert Orchestra

The Schaumburg Youth Concert Orchestra (SYCO) includes string, woodwind, brass and percussion students. String students should have an advanced understanding of their instrument including vibrato. All string players should be comfortable with first through fifth positions. Woodwind and brass players should be capable of playing in a variety of key signatures and have the ability to play expressively and as a soloist. Percussionists should be skilled on timpani, mallets, snare, crash cymbal, and auxiliary percussion instruments. The music literature is selected from authentic and developing full orchestra repertoire.

Rehearsals: Sundays, 4pm - 5:30pm, beginning Sept. 8
2024-25 Concerts:
Winter Concert - Sunday, February 9 at 3pm
Spring Concert - Sunday, May 4 at 3pm
Auditions received by November 6 will be considered for placement to begin November 10 for the Winter Concert on February 4.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
For your video audition:
- A brief (2-3 minutes) unaccompanied solo passage of your choice that shows your best technique. If you do not have a solo, you can use music played in your school band/orchestra program last year.
- Scales. All submitted scales should be MM=80-120 quarter note, separate bows.
- Violin: three octave A Major and B-flat Major
- Viola and Cello: three octave D Major and F Major
- Bass: two octave G Major and B-flat Major
- Winds and Brass: prepare two Major scales from the concert keys of C, G, D, F, or B-flat that show your command of your upper and lower registers. Two-octave scales are preferable.

All SYO members participate in their school orchestra or band programs where available.
Orchestra placement is at the discretion of the directors.
SYCO Tuition for the 2024-25 Season
$475
- Installment plans, Financial Assistance, and Scholarships available.
- All members receive a Schaumburg Youth Orchestra T-Shirt.
- Tuition includes a $25 family contribution to the Prairie Center Arts Foundation.
- Families with more than one child enrolled in the program receive a $25 discount for each additional child after one child is paid in full.
